Day 3 - Bridge Demo Clean Up

Stream has a lot of dirt and rock build up that will need to be removed.

This shows the eastern abutment wing-wall.

The water flowing through the site is clean and is not carrying any soil particles.

A tree that will need to be removed during clearing and grubbing.

Crew threading a cable through to secure the hook to the crane.

The cranes counterweight that weighs approximately 34,900 lbs.

The crane operator keeps the counterweight at 84 degrees while moving the block so he doesn't tip the crane.

The operator sets the block down, moves away and then tips the crane to allow the crew to spread the tracks out using an excavator.

Once the crane is assembled the crew pulls fence posts where the rock blanket will be installed.

The crew then finishes removing steel and wood from the creek that the excavator couldn't reach.

The operator has to carefully swing each piece of debris to a pile and neatly stack it for easy removal later on.

Operator works to install Type II rock blanket along the SW corner of the bridge. The drainage pipe was cut to grade and rolled at the field entrance located near 1+00. The ditch and slope were compacted on the SW corner of the job. Another angle of the slopes. Shows the clearance between the CMP and the light pole. Contractor originally installed an outdated dileaneator. An updated version made out of aluminium replaced the flimsy plastic. The new dileaneator compared to the plastic one. Another angle. Straw ditch checks were installed according to modot standards. Operator works on placing rip rap on the SE side of the bridge. Another angle looking south of the SW corner of the project. Day 21 - Rip Rap

The clearing and grubbing has been completed and the contractor is working on laying the type II rock blanket on the slopes. The abutment has rock pushed up against it. Picture is looking at bent 2.  Current view of bent 1 without any rip rap. The steel reinforcement is extruding out of the abutment for next phase of construction.  A majority of bent 2 has been received rock. The type II was placed on top of geo-fabric. The remaining rock will be placed after the bent is back filled.  This picture of the abutment shows the key and seats for the girders. The concrete is smooth and level. A worker cuts the remaining steel into smaller sections so it can fit inside a dumpster to be hauled away. The operator works on cutting the slope to grade so that rock can be placed.

Day 28 - Form work and tying rebar

The safety railings were installed after the forms were placed on the overhang jacks. This picture shows the contractor tying steel on bent #2 (east side of the bridge). The carpenter works on cutting the chamfer strips and pre-nailing them so they can be quickly installed. The steel reinforcement for the deck is 100% epoxy coated. After the steel was tied for the wing walls and diaphragm the operator cleared dirt away to ensure a clean working area. They are preparing to put on the concrete forms. This picture shows 75 L.F. of silt fence that was installed on the SW corner of the project.  This picture shows silt fence that was installed on both the NW and NE side of the project. After the chamfer strips were installed this picture was taken to show the quality of the craftsmanship.
