Day 29 - Tying deck steel reinforcement

Early into the day the contractor works on the deck steel. First by placing chairs and then setting transverse bars.

The crane safely lifts the rebar onto the bridge so that the workers can continue to tie the deck.

The picture shows a portion of the bridge that is complete. One bar is missing on the left and was later installed.

After lunch the crew continued to tie steel. They completed the first half in the morning.

The chamfer strips in place denote the edge of the bridge deck. The chamfer strip on the left catches water and prevents it from running down the girders. Concrete cover of 2 inches is maintained to ensure longevity of the bridge. The black marks on the left chamfer is how the contractor counted the bars and positioned them using a tape measure.
Close up of the reinforcement shows a 100% tie ensuring that no steel will move before, and during the pour.

The diaphragm and wing wall steel was tied and spacing was checked using a tape measure.

The contractor continued to work on the bridge deck and progressed at a good pace. Steel bars were counted prior to being lifted onto the bridge and then after they were positioned.
