Day 22 - Site prep for cranes and girders
The excavator operator builds up the dirt next to the road so that it will support the outriggers from the crane.
Railroad ties are laid so the outriggers of the cranes load can distribute evenly over a large surface area decreasing the chance of a bearing failure.
The foreman and the crew double check the crane charts to ensure that they can safely pick the girders.
Once the crane is in position the crew levels the crane by adjusting the outriggers.
After both cranes have been prepared this is what the site looked like.
The crew placed the neoprene bearing pads and joint filler in position so they would be ready to receive girders.
